Graduation
Today was my graduation ceremony. Lots of sitting, standing and going where you’re ushered, which means the ceremony isn’t the most thrilling thing in the world, but I’m so glad I did it; I don’t think I could imagine graduating in absentia.

It was kind of fun dressing up in academic robes, which is something I’ve never had to do before. Of course, the fellows/professors and so on sitting on the stage look like an odd collection of wizards in their array of caps and gowns.

The person receiving their honorary fellowship during my ceremony was, as I mentioned a couple of days ago, Russell T Davies. For anyone who tries to watch the ceremony online, his bit is near the end, before the opera singing. To be honest, the speech introducing him was longer than the speech he gave, but seriously. How many people get someone talking about the Rift and influential gay people during their graduation?

Paraphrasing an excerpt:

Heinz recently retracted an advert for Salad Cream featuring two men kissing, suggesting that their products are only for one sexuality. In Russell T Davies, we have a man who caters for all 57 varieties.

Or something along those lines.

RTD’s message to us all was based on the fact that Cardiff regularly gets disguised as London, or Italy or the year 5 billion: you can do anything you want, anywhere you want, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

So, yes. I’m now a graduate. Where did the last three years go?
